It just so happens that two women come to spend the summer at a nearby rental house and by the end of the book there are two happy couples and no more women-haters.Oddly enough, after a mere century it was finally made into a movie in 2010 called The Lightkeepers starring Richard Dreyfuss and Blythe Danner. Both the book and the movie are a nice way to pass an idle afternoon.

Old style story telling, slow, but quite amusing with a predictable happy ending. You could recommend it to your grandmother.

A great story. The DVD didn't measure up
to it at all.
What a great book! Joseph Lincoln had a great writing style. If you enjoyed seeing the movie The Lightkeepers with Richard Dreyfuss, which is based upon this book then you will certainly enjoy the book itself. I am going to have to see what else this author has written.
After watching the movie "The Lightkeepers" I read this book on which the movie is based. The movie is fairly faithful to the book overall. I very much enjoyed both on their own merit. Would read and watch both again and again.
This was made into a movie which lead me to want to read the book. Both are delightful!
Cute story. I read this because I'd seen the movie "Lightkeepers" and was interested to see how the book compared. The music in the movie was great but the story much more detailed and interesting in the book. This is a fun, light read.
