It is epic, but not distant, grounding us in a love story both profound and disturbing, revealing many of the facets of that emotion and the consequences when it's wielded as a weapon. Bozena, a skalax, is damaged goods: broken, passive-aggressive, manipulative, using games of seduction to hide behind. Sveta is arrogant, impulsive, and besotted with Bozena. This is the Neuri Series Book # 1. And what a book it is to kick the spin-off series from Pravus into gear!

The two MC's in Sveta are Sveta, a Neuri, and Bozena, a damaged woman who needs a lot of love and emotional assitance.

Sveta starts with a bang, when there is a gruesome murder outside the Pravus Club, and never stops. It's a full pace tilt-a-whirl, an incredible sensory journey. It's a great continuation of the Neuri world, which started in the Pravus series. I prefer the Neuri as paranormals, they are amazingly in tune with the Earth and the women they need to feel complete.

Sveta is petulant, he is obstinate, he can be angry, but, boy, when it comes to Bozena he is unbelievably caring and supportive.

Zena has had a terrible upbringing by the mother from hell. Zena's mother has berated Zena, physically hurt and emotionally scarred her, leaving a shell of a woman who cuts herself and gets involved in self harming ways, and with the wrong men. Sveta steps up and shows her how true love looks and feels. I'll tell you Sveta is a REAL MALE, in the best sense of the term. To me a real male looks after those he loves, cares for them whether it be good times or bad, and that is exactly what Sveta does.

So, along with the story being paranormal in construct - including the world building, interesting supernatural characters, like Vampyres and fallen angels, and characters that Poppet does so well - Sveta is also a love story with real heat, real heart, and great compassion.

If you want to be on the edge of your seat, if you like mystery, paranormal, mystic elements, and great passion, and characters, it's all here. This is one of my favourite (paranormal) series and several of these books will make my list of the best books of 2012.

I can't review Sveta without spoilers and do it full justice. However, I can highly recommend it to those that like a dark edge, intelligent, poetic writing, with something just that bit different.
The Neuri Series is a continuation into the magical and emotional world of Pravus. The world envisioned and portrayed takes you to the heart of the Neuri - to their emotional and at times dysfunctional relationships. This book is the story of Sveta and Zena. Sveta is completely and utterly in love with Zena. His capacity for what he feels for Zena has no limits. But Zena has the remnants of scarring emotional baggage. That baggage - truly caused me to ache and feel for her. I will admit - that up until this book I did not care for Sveta as a character. But WOWZA did my feelings change for him in this book. He is the type of man every woman craves. And he wants nothing more than to heal his Zena and make her whole again. Can he do it? And at what price will he pay for it. Jo is again the character I love to hate - but I have a feeling he will grow on me... like poison ivy.... The moment when Sveta believes he has been betrayed tore my heart from my chest and left me in tears.. my heart ached for the entire rest of the story - until I knew what was meant to be. A complete blindside hit me when I fell completely and lustfully in love with Zarak! He is the bad boy with the slight sadistic side - and holy hot Zarak - I want more of him... I highly recommend Poppets works and can not stress enough that this womans imagination knows no bounds. Each word; each sentence; each paragraph and page is an intricately woven tale of pure deliciousness!!

Favorite line from the book Swirling tangerine iridescence they clear to flint for a moment, the seduction brimming in them is so dark and elicit I can already hear myself screaming his name!!! (Can you say YUM!!)
